We arrived safely in Bratislava yesterday. We settled in at the residence, had dinner, and had everyone in their rooms by 10:00 pm.  This was easy since we had all been up for more than 30 hours by then. Forty seven students and nine delegates from six provinces are making their final preparations to represent Canada at MILSET Expo-Sciences International (ESI) 2011 in Bratislava, Slovakia. We expect to meet over 800 students from 60 countries with whom to explore our enthusiasm for science. We will learn a little of their culture, and make friends that last a lifetime. Read more

Exactly 6 months to the day after Google announced the Google Science Fair in New York City, the finals of the inaugural fair take place tomorrow at the Google campus in Mountain View, California. Like all things Google the goal was ambitious: register 10,000 science projects online from every corner of the planet and then narrow them down to 60 semi-finalists, and then just 15 finalists. We have just returned from the 2011 Intel ISEF awards ceremony, and Team Canada has a lot to celebrate! We have had a great week in Los Angeles. All 20 students selected by Youth Science Canada have done amazing things this week at ISEF. It is the end of our third day at the NYSF. The coach trip was long, but exciting. We left just after dinner, and travelled overnight and into the next day. The coach was solely for NYSFers, and we kept stopping to pick people up along the way. As a result, I met so many new people. We were all really excited, and so we spent a lot of time talking, but even more time sleeping! Read more

We’re just preparing to leave for the NYSF in Canberra. We’ve had a great time in Brisbane. On New Year’s Day, we went into the city. For a while, we roamed the streets, and we got to see the State Parliament. We then took a mini-ferry called a City Cat across the river to South Bank, which is home to the Wheel of Brisbane. This was built for the World Expo ’88. Read more
